Along the 17 mile drive
We had been on Highway 1 a couple of years back. And we were excited to do it again. I was most excited about the prospect of visiting Monterey and the 17 mile drive once again (my third visit to the place)
By paying a nominal $8 per vehicle, one can enter into this state park and drive along the curvy roads around some millionaire dollar homes that lead to some of the most amazing views of the Pacific coastline. Also visible from the drive is the famous Pebble Beach Golf Course.
This particular day was a bit cloudy and a little chilly too. It was breezy outside and the waves along the rocky coast looked pretty high at most places.
As we drove along these beautiful 17 miles in Monterey, we could just gape with our mouths open at the vastness and sereneness of the place. High waves, rocky beaches, gnarled trees and steadfast birds pirched on rocks in the ocean...
And last but not the least, this is also the home of "The Lone Cypress" tree - the symbol of California. A 250 year old cypress tree perched on a cliff in the ocean, it symbolizes strength and steadfastness and I guess that is the reason it has stood tall for so long.
